Welcoming the New Year with Kirtan

So much is happening! Ooh ooh ooh ooh! This is a reminder that Saturday, New Year's Eve 2016 is going out with a massive double header -

Saturday, December 31st - Govinda's Catering will be a guest vendor at the Carrboro Farmers' Market, 9 am - 12 pm. We will be selling Black Eyed Pea Masala, Dirty Rice with Collards (feel that Southern vibe!), Spicy Corn bread Muffins, Banana Bread Muffins, Tamarind Chutney, Mexican Wedding Cookies, and slices of our famous pies - Chocolate Tofu Creme, Maple, and Chocolate Pumpkin Pies.

Saturday, December 31st - 12-hour kirtan (noon - midnight) to bid farewell to 2016 and usher in the New Year. Let go and cleanse the past. Set your intentions for the year to come. Meet like-minded people. Be inspired. Come for any part of the event; stay as long as you like. My band, Samadhi, will be leading the chanting from 7 - 8:30 pm. **The newly formed (and as yet, unrehearsed) Govinda's Catering House Band will be playing at 3 pm. Free. Potluck vegetarian snacks. Krishna Temple of NC, 1032 Dimmocks Mill Rd, Hillsborough. (It also happens to be the way I celebrate my birthday. :-)

Saturday, January 7th - First Saturday Potluck & Kirtan at Triangle Yoga, 930 Martin Luther King Blvd., Chapel Hill. 6:30 - 9 pm. Samadhi will welcome in 2017 with friends and joyful heart-centered music. Suggested donation $5 - $20.

Saturday, January 14th - Conversations with the Divine workshop.

Last year several people began asking me when I would be leading a kirtan workshop. After much deliberation, here it is! This workshop is for those who want to learn more about the various names and aspects of Divinity found in Sanskrit mantras. We will be highlighting the position and relationships of Lord Krishna, Lord Siva, and Durga Devi. Mantras are Divine energy encapsulated in a sound structure; therefore, the mantra you choose will affect your relationship to the Divine. In this practicum we will chant as a group, break down several mantras and their meanings, and work in small groups to practice leading chants. Instruments are welcome. Sliding scale donations of $20 - $45 gratefully accepted. Please email or call me at 919-308-1465 to register for this very special event. Will be held in Hillsborough.

Saturday, January 14th - Kirtan with Samadhi at Oasis Cafe, Carr Mill Mall, Carrboro. 8 - 10 pm. Come see how a 7-piece band fits on the tiny stage at Oasis. This little spot of heaven has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere and genuinely welcoming vibe - a perfect match for the healing sounds of kirtan! Free. Buying of tea and other goods from the Cafe encouraged. ;-)

Saturday, January 28th - Govinda's Catering will be back at the Carrboro Farmers' Market from 9 am - 12 pm. I will update you all on the menu as we get closer to that date.

Friday, February 3rd - Birthday Party for Govinda's Catering at 360 Degree Health, 401 Meadowlands Dr, Ste. 102, Hillsborough. Wowee! We will be four-years old in January 2017. That is like turning 28 in restaurant years! Well maybe it is not exactly a 1 to 7 aging ratio; however, it is a big deal for any new business to make it past 3 years, especially a food service business. Sample Govinda's favorite dishes. Sing along with Samadhi's heartfelt chants. Meet other amazing people who happen to be Govinda's customers. Help us set an intention for the next 4 years of wonderful food service. This little shindig is free, but RSVP by January 25th is required, as there will be dinner provided. Due to space, limited to first 40 who RSVP 6 - 8:30 pm.
